OWL VFD Celebrates EMT Megan Pickett’s OMD Endorsement
OWL VFD EMT Megan Pickett successfully completed the Prince William County Fire & Rescue System’s Operational Medical Director (OMD) requirements to become an endorsed emergency medical services provider.
This achievement marks another important milestone in Pickett’s longstanding commitment to volunteer service, professional development, and the community.
A Continued Commitment to EMS
Earning OMD endorsement requires providers to successfully complete a protocols class and a field internship under the guidance of a Field Training Officer. This process ensures providers demonstrate a thorough understanding of the standardized treatment procedures outlined in the Prince William County Fire & Rescue System’s patient care manual.
By completing these requirements, Pickett has demonstrated the knowledge and skills necessary to provide emergency medical care in accordance with the system’s established protocols.
A Journey of Service and Growth
Pickett’s journey with OWL VFD began in 2013 when she joined the department as a Junior Member and earned her Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.
After taking a brief break from the department, she returned in 2020 as an Administrative Member, continuing to support OWL’s mission in a different capacity.
In April 2025, Pickett transitioned back into an operational role, renewing her commitment to providing hands-on emergency services to the community. She quickly began working toward additional qualifications, completing the department’s training requirements to become an Ambulance Driver in September 2025.
Her recent OMD endorsement represents the next step in that journey, reflecting her perseverance, dedication to training, and continued desire to grow as an EMS provider.
Recognizing Dedication to Volunteer Service
Pickett’s progression from Junior Member to Administrative Member and back to operational service highlights the many ways volunteers contribute to OWL VFD throughout different stages of their lives.
Her accomplishments also demonstrate the importance of ongoing training and professional development in ensuring OWL members are prepared to respond to the needs of the community.
