OWL VFD Celebrates Firefighter/EMT Jaden Nguyen’s Graduation and Leadership Award

We are proud of Firefighter/EMT Jaden Nguyen on successfully completing the Prince William County Fire & Rescue System’s Volunteer Recruit Class 26139. In addition to graduating, Nguyen was recognized by his fellow recruits with the class Leadership Award, presented on behalf of the Prince William Chamber of Commerce.

Since joining OWL VFD in March 2025, Nguyen has demonstrated a strong commitment to training, professional development, and serving the community.

Building a Foundation in Emergency Services

Nguyen began his journey in emergency services by completing EMT training, earning both his Virginia EMT-Basic certification and National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) credentials in 2025.

Currently attending George Mason University’s School of Nursing, Nguyen sees his volunteer service as an opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience while preparing for a career in healthcare.

“EMS allows me to apply what I’m learning in school while developing strong patient care, decision-making, and teamwork skills that will carry into my nursing career,” Nguyen shared.

While serving as an EMT, Nguyen also gained exposure to firefighting operations. His experiences riding on the engine inspired him to expand his training and pursue firefighter certification.

“I saw firsthand the impact firefighters also have on the citizens we serve,” he explained. “That experience inspired me to add more skills to better serve our community.”

Recognized for Leadership Among His Peers

During Volunteer Recruit Class 26139, Nguyen was selected by his peers to serve as Battalion 1 Leader, a responsibility he embraced with pride.

“Being recognized as a leader by my fellow cadets means a lot to me because it shows they trusted me to represent them,” Nguyen reflected. “In this role, I always tried to be someone they could rely on—someone willing to lead.”

His dedication and leadership did not go unnoticed. At the conclusion of the academy, his fellow recruits selected him to receive the class Leadership Award, presented on behalf of the Prince William Chamber of Commerce.

The recognition reflects not only Nguyen’s accomplishments throughout recruit training but also the trust and respect he earned from those training alongside him.

Continuing His Commitment to Training and Service

With firefighter training behind him, Nguyen is already working toward his next milestones. He has completed Emergency Vehicle Driver Training (EVDT) Levels I and II and is progressing through OWL VFD’s driver training program to qualify as an ambulance driver. He is also pursuing his Operational Medical Director (OMD) endorsement to further expand his emergency medical capabilities.

Nguyen’s journey reflects the dedication, teamwork, and commitment to continuous learning that are central to OWL VFD’s mission. His willingness to take on new challenges and develop additional skills strengthens both the department and the community it serves.
