Volunteer EMT’s Passion for Helping Others: Congratulations to Megan Gandy on Achieving Active Status

Congratulations to Volunteer EMT Megan Gandy on reaching an important milestone in her volunteer journey—earning Active Status with OWL.

Although Megan joined the department already certified as both a Virginia State EMT-Basic and National Registry EMT (NREMT), becoming an active operational member represents far more than holding certifications. It reflects months of commitment, training, participation, and dedication to becoming a trusted member of the OWL team.

Megan first joined OWL as a Junior Member in late 2025. After recently celebrating her 18th birthday, she transitioned to Probationary Member and, at this month’s Company Meeting, was officially voted into Active Membership—a significant achievement that marks the beginning of her operational career with the department.

Her decision to become an EMT was driven by a simple but meaningful goal.

“I wanted to become an EMT because I wanted to gain training to help make a real difference in emergencies and be someone people can count on when it matters most.”

That same desire to serve led her to OWL.

“I was inspired to join OWL because I wanted to use my skills to help people while being part of a supportive, tight-knit team known for its great social environment.”

As she begins this next chapter, Volunteer EMT Megan is already looking ahead. Her next goal is to become an Ambulance Driver, allowing her to further expand the ways she serves the residents and visitors of Prince William County.
