From Junior Member to Top Graduate: Congratulations to Volunteer Firefighter/EMT Britney Ledinh

OWL VFD is proud to recognize Firefighter/EMT Britney Ledinh on an exceptional milestone in her volunteer career—successfully graduating from the Prince William County Fire & Rescue System’s Volunteer Recruit Class 26139.

Britney’s accomplishment was made even more remarkable when she was named Top Graduate, earning the highest overall final grade in her recruit class. This prestigious recognition reflects not only academic excellence, but also the determination, discipline, and commitment she has demonstrated throughout her training.

Britney’s journey with OWL began in 2023 when she joined the department as a Junior Member. After turning 18 later that year, she transitioned into active membership as a Probationary Member, quickly establishing herself as someone eager to learn and serve her community.

Her first passion was emergency medical services. She earned both her Virginia State EMT-Basic and National Registry EMT-Basic certifications before completing the Prince William County Fire & Rescue System’s Operational Medical Director (OMD) requirements earlier this year, allowing her to serve as an endorsed EMS provider.

Like many volunteers, Britney didn’t initially picture herself pursuing the fire service. What began as an opportunity to gain clinical experience soon evolved into a passion for becoming a firefighter.

“I joined as a junior looking for clinical experience. I lived down the street from Station 2, so I decided to apply for membership, because why not? I wanted to do EMS when I first joined. Seventeen-year-old me would never have thought to become a firefighter, but here I am now.”

Today, Britney has proven that embracing new challenges can lead to extraordinary achievements. Her journey from aspiring EMT to graduating at the top of her recruit class is an inspiring example of the opportunities that volunteer service can provide.

She isn’t slowing down, either. Britney is already looking toward her next goals: earning qualifications as an Ambulance Driver and Lead EMT, continuing to expand the ways she can serve the citizens of Prince William County.
