OWL Celebrates National Volunteer Week | April 20 – 26

During National Volunteer Week, we proudly salute the dedicated volunteers of the Occoquan-Woodbridge-Lorton Volunteer Fire Department (OWL VFD), whose unwavering commitment ensures the safety and well-being of our community.

In 2024, OWL Operational members logged over 50,000 staffing hours, with over 100 members contributing to staffing units throughout the year. Additionally, non-staffing hours—representing the time spent by members on training and administrative tasks to support the department— totaled 5,293 hours.

Founded in 1938, the department has grown into one of the nation’s largest and busiest volunteer fire departments, serving over 80,000 residents across 27 square miles. From seasoned veterans to eager juniors, our members dedicate countless hours to training, responding to emergencies, and fostering a strong sense of community. Their selfless service embodies the spirit of volunteerism and plays a crucial role in maintaining the safety and resilience of Woodbridge, Lake Ridge, and Lorton.

As we celebrate National Volunteer Week, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the men and women of OWL VFD. Your courage, compassion, and commitment are the cornerstones of our community’s safety and strength.
