OWL Members Complete Boat Crew Class
OWL recently hosted a Boat Crew class. The two-day training started with a classroom lecture, then moved to Hampton’s Landing Marina in Woodbridge for hands-on learning with both Boat 502 and Boat 512. On the final day, members meet at the Chinn Aquatics and Fitness Center’s pool where they had to pass a swim test. The class ended with members learning water rescue skills such as how to strap a patient to a stretcher while in the water and properly pull the stretcher from the water. They also practiced how to pull someone from the water by their life vest, without a life vest, and onto a backboard.
OWL’s Marine Division responds to calls on the Occoquan River to the north, the Potomac River to the east, and Chopawamsic Creek to the south.
