June is National Fireworks Safety Month
The Fourth of July is one of America’s most cherished celebrations, bringing families and communities together with parades, cookouts, and, of course, fireworks. But while fireworks are fun and festive, they also pose one of the greatest fire risks to both people and property

.
Each year, thousands of injuries related to fireworks are treated in hospital emergency departments across the United States. Even seemingly small fireworks, like sparklers, can reach temperatures hot enough to cause serious burns.
Leave Fireworks to the Professionals
The Prince William County Fire & Rescue System strongly urges residents to enjoy public, professional
fireworks shows instead of using consumer fireworks at home. There are many safe and spectacular displays planned throughout Northern Virginia, Maryland, and D.C.—check your local listings for times and locations.
If you choose to purchase fireworks for personal use, make sure they are legal and purchased from approved stands within Prince William County. All permitted fireworks vendors are inspected by the Fire Marshal’s Office to ensure safety compliance.
