Two OWL VFD Members Recognized with the 2021 Administrative Member of the Year award
At our annual awards, OWL VFD Life Member Sue Wessolleck and Administrative Member Stacey Godin received the 2021 Robert F. Arrington Administrative Member of the Year Award.
In 2020, the COVID pandemic forced everyone to change their way of life in an instant. At OWL VFD this meant new ways of operating in the field, new procedures and policies consistently evolving, and the immediate halting of almost all our community engagement, including suspending bingo operations.
In April of 2021, we were allowed to resume bingo operations. Before welcoming the community back, several tasks had to be completed, starting with the reinstating of our permit with the state gaming commission to reinstate our permit, checking the inventory of supplies, scheduling members to work, and requesting PWC Police to be available for security. In addition to all of this, operating in the COVID environment meant creating and implementing new processes and procedures to ensure the safety of our members and the community.
Wessolleck and Godin took on these responsibilities which lead to a smooth restart of bingo operations. At OWL VFD, bingo managers receive a stipend. Both members refused the financial compensation and stepped up to complete all tasks without hesitation.
In addition to the behind-the-scenes work, every Wednesday they were at station 2, welcoming the players and workers. Their hard work was the major contributor to being able to resume bingo operations. We are grateful for Wessolleck and Godin’s continued support and dedication to OWL VFD and the communities we serve.
The Administrative Member of the Year award is named in honor of Robert “Mike” F. Arrington, Sr., an OWL VFD Life Member who served until his passing in 2007.
