Rising to the Challenge: OWL Junior Members Achieve EMT Certification

We take pride in the dedication and passion of our junior members—young individuals who balance school, training, and service in their commitment to making a difference. Today, we’re proud to recognize two outstanding junior members who have achieved a major milestone in their public safety journey.

Alexander Black: Inspired by Family, Driven by Service

Congratulations to OWL Junior Member Alexander Black for recently earning both the Virginia State EMT-Basic and National Registry of EMTs (NREMT) certifications!

Alex joined OWL in April 2024, following in the footsteps of his brother Aiden, a former OWL member who stepped away from the department to attend the U.S. Naval Academy in 2023. Motivated by a desire to serve and explore a new path, Alex shared, “I thought it would be a good experience and introduction to something new while helping the community.”

Currently preparing to enter his senior year at Forest Park High School, Alex plans to continue his training with the goal of becoming an Ambulance Driver once he turns 18 in January 2026. His commitment to serving others while pursuing personal growth embodies the spirit of OWL’s Junior Program.

Kody Barbier: From Friendship to First Responder

We also extend our heartfelt congratulations to EMT Kody Barbier, who has also earned his Virginia State EMT-Basic and NREMT certifications!

Kody joined OWL’s Junior Program in July 2023, alongside his friend Austin Williams. Their shared interest in public service has grown into a path of personal achievement and dedication. Now a recent graduate of Woodbridge High School, Kody is setting his sights on training to become both a Firefighter and an Ambulance Driver with OWL.

His ambition and teamwork reflect the values we nurture in our junior members—growth, service, and camaraderie.

Celebrating the Future of Public Safety

The accomplishments of Alexander and Kody are a testament to what young people can achieve when given the opportunity to learn, lead, and serve. At OWL, we are proud to provide a foundation where future first responders can thrive.
