OWL Announces EMS Lieutenant Promotion
OWL’s Operational Leadership has appointed Leo Greenwald as an EMS Lieutenant.
Lt. Greenwald joined OWL as a Junior Member in June 2021. He earned his EMT certification as an Arlington Tech high school student through a dual enrollment program with Northern Virginia Community College.
Arlington Tech is a Governor’s STEM Academy that offers students a more challenging curriculum. Among the requirements is completing a Capstone project in their senior year. The comprehensive project encourages students to apply the knowledge and skills acquired throughout their academic careers to solve a real-world problem.
Lt. Greenwald’s project had ties to OWL’s History. “President Dave Williams gave me several boxes of historical photos and documents to sort, label, and scan into an online database. The process gave me an excellent brief of OWL’s history and helped me understand the reasoning behind various decisions made throughout the years,” Greenwald explained. The project allowed him to talk to life members and former chiefs like Billy Spicer, who offered additional insight.
Away from the station, Lt. Greenwald is a George Mason University student working towards a Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in Community Health.
