OWL Responds to a Brush Fire in Dumfries
On March 20, 2024, around 4:30 p.m., a call was put out to all volunteer departments requesting volunteers to report to the stations to staff additional units as the Prince William County Fire and Rescue system were responding to multiple brush fires as well as regular calls. OWL members answered the call. Crews staffed Engine 512B and Brush 512. They were dispatched to the Brush Fire in Locust Shade Park in Dumfries. Crews operated in the thick of the fire line along with Companies 503, 506 and 517.
OWL reminds the community to be mindful during Red Flag Warnings where the combination of dry conditions, low humidity, and strong gusty winds are favorable for the rapid spread of fires. Simple tasks such as disposing fireplace ashes, cigarettes and other smoking materials as well as operating equipment that creates sparks could easily start a fire.
