OWL Receives Safety Glasses Donation
The Woodbridge Elks Lodge recently donated pairs of safety glasses to OWL VFD. This generous donation will help ensure that members will have the safety gear they need while serving the community.
The Elks Lodge is a benevolent organization that provides charity within the community. The Safety Glasses program was established by Dr. Robert Hinkle, an audiologist, who saw a need for safety glasses in high schools. The program has one of the main charities across the state.
Mary Louise Mawn, Former Exalted Ruler and Coordinator of the Woodbridge Elks Lodge Safety Glasses Program says, “I feel that we provide a great product and it’s been very well received by the organizations that we have donated to.”
The Woodbridge Elks Lodge (Charter #2355) donated safety glasses exclusively to Prince William County Public Schools. However, the COVID Pandemic inspired the organization to also begin donating safety glasses to hospitals and first responders.
At OWL’s February Company Meeting, representatives from the Woodbridge Elks Lodge presented the department with over 150 sets of safety glasses.
The Woodbridge Elks Lodge raises money for the purchase of the glasses from the games and entertainment hosted by their club for their members. Money is also raised by renting their hall for community events.
Since 2011, the Woodbridge Elks Lodge has donated over 10,000 pairs of safety glasses.
