Woodbridge Elks Lodge Donates Safety Glasses
The Woodbridge Elks Lodge recently donated 156 pairs of safety glasses to OWL VFD at Station 2. This generous donation will help ensure that the men and women of OWL VFD have the safety gear they need to protect themselves while they work.
The Elks Lodge is a benevolent organization that provides charity within the community. Safety Glasses program was established by Dr. Robert Hinkle, an audiologist, who saw a need for safety glasses in high schools. This program has one of the main charities across the state.
Mary Louise Mawn, Former Exalted Ruler and Coordinator of the Woodbridge Elks Lodge Safety Glasses Program says, “I feel that we provide a great product and it’s been very well received by the organizations that we have donated to.”
The Woodbridge Elks Lodge (Charter #2355) donated safety glasses exclusively to Prince William County Public Schools. However, the COVID Pandemic inspired the organization to also begin donating safety glasses to hospitals and first responders.
On October 21, representatives from the Woodbridge Elks Lodge visited Station 2 at 1306 F Street in Woodbridge to make the donation and receive a tour of the station.
Since 2011, the Woodbridge Elks Lodge has donated over 10,000 pairs of safety glasses.
“The money raised from the games and entertainment that we host in the club for our members. We also raise money by renting our hall for community events.” Said Treasurer Bob Geipel.
Nancy McFarland, Woodbridge Elks Lodge Club Manager explains why they work so hard to raise the money. “It’s a project that is close to our hearts. We always make sure it’s something that is in our budget.”
